Beth Torah Congregation (BTC) serves the spiritual, communal and educational needs of more than 400 families with warmth and vibrancy in a family-style atmosphere. A conservative shul for over 65 years, we have been at the nexus of tradition and modernity. We offer the wisdom of the ages gleaned from the Torah while speaking to the concerns of our congregants with relevance and meaning.

 

The Baal Korei (Torah Reader) reports to Clergy. The responsibilities include the following:

  • Accurate Leining of Torah using correct tropes for weekly Shabbat Services, either full Parsha or Triennial cycle reading
  • Accurate Leining of Torah using correct tropes for Rosh Hashanah Day 1 and Day 2, Yom Kippur Morning and Yom Kippur Mincha
  • Accurate Leining of Torah using correct tropes for Succot Holiday Days and Succot Chol  Hamoed, Shmini Azeret, Simcha Torah
  • Accurate Leining of Torah using correct tropes for Passover Holiday Days and Passover Chol  HaMoed
  • Accurate Leining of Torah using correct tropes for Shavuot Day 1 and Day 2
  • Accurate Leining of Torah using correct tropes for Special Shabbats (2 or 3 Torahs)
  • Accurate Leining of Torah using correct tropes for Tisha B’Av if needed
  • Accurate Leining of Torah using correct tropes for Shabbat Mincha, if required
  • Accurate Leining of Megillah for Purim
  • Accurate Leining of Shir Hashirim (if required)
  • Work with Beth Torah Gabbaim to create a smooth running Torah Service
  • Read Shabbat or Holiday Haftorahs when needed.
  • Interact with the BTC administrative team in connection with the foregoing and scheduling  matters

Additional Information

This is a part-time, in-person, permanent position to commence as soon as possible.

Salary range is $27,000-$34,000 annually commensurate with experience.
