Description:

Beth Tikvah Synagogue, a dynamic egalitarian Conservative synagogue in Toronto, is seeking an Executive Director. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to grow your career.

We find ourselves at a pivotal juncture as we strive to capture the essence of our core values while building a sustainable future for our shul. The individual who steps into this position can expect to play a crucial role in leading the organization through this transformation.

The Executive Director reports directly to the President of the Synagogue and works in tandem with the Senior Rabbi. The incumbent is responsible for providing operational leadership and playing a key role with staff, clergy, members, and the community.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Manage and supervise a team of approximately 10 office and custodial staff, including developing job descriptions, recruiting, training, coaching, and conducting performance reviews
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and promotion of the Synagogue’s strategic, operational and program plans
  • Oversee that a calendar of events is maintained and up-to-date
  • Promote member satisfaction, retention, attraction, and play a key role in collecting annual membership contributions
  • Support and participate in fundraising efforts and endowment campaigns
  • Participate in the preparation of the annual operating budget alongside the Budget & Finance Committee
  • Responsible for public relations with members and the community, representing the Synagogue when required
  • Ensure diverse stakeholder (members, volunteers, professionals, lay leadership, staff) input is considered on relevant matters
  • Provide administrative support to the Board of Directors, as well as a variety of its committees and working groups, by attending meetings as required
  • Attend all high holiday services, hagim, and Synagogue-wide functions to assist with and ensure smooth execution
  • Oversee matters relating to lifecycle events and other Synagogue needs
  • Ensure that the technology infrastructure is maintained and enhanced as required throughout the Synagogue, utilizing additional resources, as needed
Qualificatons:
  • 7-10 years of work experience in a similar role
  • A degree in business administration or business management is strongly sought
  • Experience in a not-for-profit organization would be a valuable asset
  • Strong people management skills
  • Leading a team through transformational change
  • Managing interests of diverse stakeholders
  • Knowledge of, and experience with the Jewish community
