Seeking a full-time bookkeeper position in the charitable sector.

Chabad Romano Synagogue (including Hebrew School and Gan Shalom day care)  and our Tamim Academy of York Region day school, require a dedicated full-time bookkeeper with experience in the charitable sector. This is an in-office position although some remote work is negotiable.

 

Work responsibilities:

  • Maintain and manage the general ledgers for two substantial legal entities and a smaller third, ensuring all financial transactions are recorded accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Oversee accounts receivable,  tracking donations and contributions, and ensuring proper acknowledgment and receipts for donors.
  • Perform regular reconciliations of bank statements to internal records, investigating and resolving discrepancies as necessary.
  • Accounts payable/ receivable /payroll
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal management and the board, reflecting the organization’s financial status.
  • Maintain records to facilitate HST rebate submissions and grant applications.
  • Potentially develop budgets and financial forecasts related to programs and operational needs.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and organizational policies, including those specific to charitable organizations and Jewish communal standards.
  • Support the annual audit process by preparing necessary documentation and financial reports for auditors.
  • Maintain organized financial files and documentation, including invoices, receipts, contribution records, and contracts.
Qualificatons:
  • Proven experience as a bookkeeper or in a similar role, preferably within a charitable organization or the Jewish community.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Open to learning and growing your skills.
  • Familiarity of charity/nonprofit accounting principles and practices.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a passion for serving the Jewish community.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information with integrity.
