Substitute Teaching Assistant
Mon or Weds (Roncesvalles or Seaton Village)
Tues or Thurs (Kensington Market or Wychwood)
3:00-6:00pm
Location: Toronto, ON (in person)
Makom seeks creative, energetic, and reliable substitute teaching assistants.
Substitute staff members agree to be part of a call list and will be contacted on an as-needed basis. There is no commitment to fill any particular opening.
Responsibilities
- Assist in a class of children in JK/SK, grades 1-2, or grades 3-5
- Support and maintain a positive, welcoming, and inclusive class community
- Assist the Teacher with classroom management
- Supervise recess and snack time
- Pick up students from their public-school classrooms or transport students from their public school to one of our afterschool sites by walking or TTC
- Assist the Teacher with teaching Hebrew literacy and conversation
- Assist the Teacher with teaching Jewish values, culture, and traditions in a pluralistic and inclusive fashion
- Assist the Teacher with classroom setup, clean up, and attendance taking
Qualificatons:
- Passion for working with children
- Experience with teaching, camp counselling, or youth work
- Commitment to children’s social and emotional development
- Desire to grow and learn professionally
- Reliability and responsibility
Police Check & First Aid/CPR
- VSC (Vulnerable Sector Check) preferred
- VSC required for roles involving student transport
- VSC required by 4th afternoon of work
- VSC fee reimbursed after 4 afternoons of work
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred
