The Toronto Cheder- General Studies Principal

 

The Toronto Cheder is seeking General Studies Principal (GSP) for the 2026-2027 school year. The GSP will work with the Assistant General Studies Principal and other members of the administrative team to provide an outstanding educational experience for our talmidim. The GSP will lead by building strong connections with individual talmidim, parents, and faculty, and working collaboratively with these constituencies to further The Cheder’s goals.

The ideal candidate will possess (i) Outstanding interpersonal and supervisory skills for interacting with talmidim, staff, parents, and peers, (ii) Excellent administrative skills, (iii) Familiarity with Cheder schooling and (iv) Thorough knowledge of curricula.  It is advantageous that the GSP have (v) Experience in school administration and (vi) An advanced degree in education from an accredited university.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Instructional Leadership

  • Review, assess, and update the General Studies curriculum to maintain rigor, relevance, and alignment with the Cheder’s educational goals.
  • Provide ongoing oversight to ensure that teachers effectively implement the approved curriculum.
  • Introduce innovative programs, tools, and instructional methods that enhance teaching and learning.
  • Oversee report cards, progress reports, and academic assessments to ensure consistent quality and accuracy.

Faculty Development & Supervision

  • Recruit, interview, and hire General Studies faculty in partnership with the Menahel.
  • Support, mentor, and evaluate teachers through regular classroom observations and feedback.
  • Assist in planning and implementing professional development sessions tailored to staff needs.
  • Coordinate substitute teacher placement.

Student Life & Discipline

  • Oversee discipline, ensuring a positive, respectful, and growth-oriented environment.
  • Supervise daily school dismissal and uphold student dress code standards.

 

Parent & Community Relations

  • Serve as a point of contact for parents with questions or concerns related to the General Studies program.
  • Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress, classroom expectations, and school-wide initiatives.

Administrative Leadership

  • Collaborate with school leadership on strategic initiatives, scheduling, and policy implementation.
  • Procure textbooks, classroom materials, and instructional resources as needed.
  • Plan and oversee special projects, events, and school-wide programs that enrich the educational experience.
  • Participate as an active member of the school leadership team, contributing to overall school improvement.
Qualificatons:
  • Strong instructional background in elementary education.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to mentor teachers, collaborate with administrators, and engage parents.
  • Commitment to the values and mission of a Torah-centered educational environment.
  • (preferred) Minimum 3–5 years of experience in school leadership or curriculum coordination
  • (preferred) Master’s degree in Education or Educational Leadership.
