Beth Sholom is a dynamic synagogue with a range of vibrant and creative events and programs. Located at Eglinton and the Allen Road, we are in a thriving area being redeveloped and gentrified. At 1,000 Households and growing with young families, Beth Sholom is positioned to make a significant impact in the Jewish landscape of Toronto.  Beth Sholom is undergoing a major Capital Renovation in the fall of 2026 that will be a game-changer for synagogue engagement in the Cedervale/Forest Hill areas.

This position is responsible for various duties, but not limited to:

  • Schedule Torah Honours/Aliyot for Shabbat and Holidays
  • Maintain mishaberach lists
  • Arrange Haftorah readers
  • Staff liaison to the Minyan committee, Ritual Committee, and High Holy Day Task Forcer – attend meetings, take notes, facilitate programs
  • Bar and Bat Mitzvah coordination – schedule Aliyot, arrange Torah honours, candies, keepot, certificates and gifts
  • Process marriage licenses
  • Administrative support for clergy
  • Bereavement and shiva – notices, shiva leaders, monhtly yahrzeit notifications
  • Oversee the sale and installation of memorial plaques, and the One More Candle program
  • Liaise with and oversight of the kitchen, organize Shabbat Kiddush menus, weekly breakfasts, etc
  • High Holy Days – assist visiting clergy; secure housing, meals, service contracts
  • Input all relevant information from a Ritual perspective into shul cloud calendar
Qualificatons:

Knowledge of the Jewish community, Jewish ritual, history and customs, and the Hebrew language would be a tremendous asset. Excellent customer service skills, highly organized and detail-oriented, thrive in a fast-paced work environment, have a strong work ethic and be a team-player.

 

Can be trained, but an ideal candidate will have knowledge and understanding of how to assign Torah honours on weekdays, Shabbat (morning and mincha), yom tov, Rosh Chodesh. Ability to read an English tefillah luach (ie. Ezras Torah) and understand exceptions in the order of tefillot as they arise.
