Special Education Teacher
Kayla’s Children Centre is a multi-disciplinary centre for children with special needs. Our mission is to provide high-quality, cutting-edge, educational, therapeutic, and recreational programs for infants, children and teens with special needs, and to assist their families by offering support and respite.
We are seeking a candidate to work in our school setting providing whole group, small group, 1:1 support and behaviour management in the classroom. The candidate will have the benefit of working within a multi-disciplinary team of experts such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, music therapists, and behaviour analysts.

Responsibilities:
• Create Individual Education Plans for your students
• Ongoing communication with families
• Plan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to each student’s abilities
• Writing detailed lesson plans
• Supervise and mentor teacher assistants
• Use individualized reinforcement technique
• Teach in large group, small group and one-on-one settings
• Implement Independent Activity Schedules
• Implement social skills, life skills and self-regulation strategies
• Collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team
• Discuss student’s progress with parents, teachers, and administrator
• Implement behaviour management protocol
• Record and track data
Educational Assistant

Job Responsibilities:
· To provide whole group, small group, or 1:1 academic support and behaviour management in the classroom
· To provide academic support to the students 1:1, to ensure the students are keeping on task, to assist the students in understanding the content they are learning and to help implement the students with the accommodations included in their IEPs
· To be a presence in the class and a role model to the students, to observe the students during frontal lessons from the teacher and to proactively provide support to students
· To provide guidance and support to students on the use of technology in the classroom
· To adhere to the rules of our school and ensure the students do the same
· To teach already prepared lessons or lead class discussions as needed by the class teacher
· To assist the class teacher with preparing and/or printing class materials
Qualificatons:
Special Education Teacher
- Ontario College of Teachers Certification is preferred
• ABA training
• Special Education Part 1 Additional Qualification and experience working with students with Learning Disabilities and/or ADHD considered an asset
• Effective experience working with a broad variety of learners and children in an educational setting
• Strong behaviour management skills
• Leadership skills
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Experience working with children of all ages
• CPR and crisis prevention certifications (preferred)
Educational Assistant Credentials
· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a team player
· Strong oral communication skills
· Ability to build a rapport with the students to gain their trust in accepting the candidate’s support
· Basic organizational skills, record keeping skills, and technology skills
· Ability to follow instructions
· Flexibility and adaptability to changing situations
· Ability to present a positive attitude and work ethic
· Ability to support or willing to learn how to support physically/emotionally demanding students
Previous experience working in an educational environment or with people with disabilities is an asset
