Substitute Hebrew & Jewish Learning Teacher
Mondays or Wednesdays (Roncesvalles or Seaton Village)
Tuesdays or Thursdays (Kensington Market or Wychwood)
3:00-6:00pm
Location: Toronto, ON (in person)
Makom seeks experienced, creative, and energetic substitute Hebrew and Jewish Learning teachers.
Substitute staff members agree to be part of a call list and will be contacted on an as-needed basis. There is no commitment to fill any particular opening.
Responsibilities
- Teach Hebrew language and Jewish learning classes to children in JK/SK, grades 1-2, or grades 3-5 using lesson plans provided by the regular teacher
- Create and maintain a positive, welcoming, and inclusive class community
- Teach through play-based and experiential modes of education
- Teach Jewish values, culture, and traditions in a pluralistic, inclusive fashion
- Pick up students from their public-school classrooms or transport students from their public school to one of our afterschool sites by walking or TTC
- Supervise recess and snack time
- Classroom setup, clean up, and attendance taking
Qualificatons:
- Hebrew and English fluency
- Passion for working with children
- Experience with classroom teaching, lesson planning, and pedagogy
- Background in Jewish studies and traditions
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Commitment to children’s social and emotional development
- Desire to grow and learn professionally
- Reliable and responsible
Police Check & First Aid/CPR
- VSC (Vulnerable Sector Check) preferred
- VSC required for roles involving student transport
- VSC required by 4th afternoon of work
- VSC fee reimbursed after 4 afternoons of work
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred

Additional Comments:
Salary
- $35/hour on-site, beginning at 3:30 p.m. and concluding at 6 p.m.
- Transportation duties before 3:30pm are additionally paid at $30/hour.
